Where can you watch fireworks in Silicon Valley on the Fourth of July?
Silicon Valley has strong options this year, from Great America in Santa Clara to a once-in-a-generation show at the Golden Gate Bridge. Here's what to know before you go.
This Fourth of July is not a normal one.
America turns 250 years old on July 4, 2026, and the celebrations reflect it. The San Francisco show alone is shaping up to be one of the most significant fireworks displays in Bay Area history. If you've been on the fence about making a night of it this year, that's your reason.
But the South Bay has strong options too, and not everyone wants to deal with city traffic and Bay Area fog on a holiday night. Whether you're staying local or making the trek north, here's the full breakdown of where to go and what to expect.
We put this guide together for the neighbors, clients, and community members we work with across San Jose, Cambrian, Willow Glen, Campbell, and the broader South Bay.
Every year has fireworks. Not every year has this.
July 4, 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of American independence, and San Francisco is doing something it has done only twice before in the Golden Gate Bridge's entire history: launching fireworks directly from the bridge itself. That's not a marketing line. That's genuinely rare.
Add to that the fact that cities across the country are going bigger this year to mark the semiquincentennial, and you have a holiday weekend that carries more weight than usual. If there's ever a year to make it an event, this is it.
Fireworks will launch directly from the Golden Gate Bridge, with additional launches from barges near Pier 39 and the Marina Green. The show begins around 9:30 PM.
Best spots to watch:
What to skip this year: The Ferry Building and Embarcadero area won't have the sightlines they normally do. The launch locations have shifted to accommodate the bridge show, so the northern waterfront is where you want to be.
The honest caveat: Karl the Fog is always a wildcard. Bring a layer, check the forecast the morning of, and have a backup plan. If the weather cooperates, this will be one of the most memorable Bay Area nights in a very long time.
If staying local is the priority, California's Great America is the biggest fireworks display in Silicon Valley.
Fireworks kick off around 9:40 PM and are included with park admission. For families, this is the most complete experience: rides, food, and a full professional fireworks show without a long drive or a ferry line.
You can sometimes see the display from nearby public areas outside the park, though visibility varies depending on where you set up.
If the classic small-town Fourth of July is what you're after, Morgan Hill delivers it as well as anywhere in the region.
The show takes place at the Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Center. Gates open in the evening with food, live music, and family activities before the fireworks. It's consistently one of the largest hometown Independence Day celebrations in Northern California, and the crowd energy reflects that.
Great for families. Great if you want the full patriotic vibe without fighting city traffic.
The San Francisco Symphony performs live at Shoreline, followed by a professionally choreographed fireworks finale.
If your version of a perfect Fourth involves a picnic blanket, live music, and fireworks timed to the crescendo, this is it. Tickets are required, so plan ahead.
Worth checking if you're a baseball household. The San Jose Giants typically host fireworks nights during the season, including around holiday weekends.

Show | Location | Vibe | Tickets Required? |
|---|---|---|---|
Golden Gate Bridge | San Francisco | Historic, once-in-a-generation | No (public viewing) |
Great America | Santa Clara | Family, full-experience | Yes (park admission) |
Freedom Fest | Morgan Hill | Hometown, community | No |
Shoreline Amphitheatre | Mountain View | Concert + fireworks | Yes |
San Jose Giants | San Jose | Ballpark classic | Yes (game ticket) |
Traffic: Expect significant congestion at Great America and in San Francisco, especially on the way out. If you're headed to the city, BART is your friend. Give yourself extra time in both directions.
Parking: Morgan Hill and Shoreline both have dedicated lots, but they fill up. Arrive early.
Weather: This is the Bay Area. The coast and the city will be noticeably cooler than the South Bay after sundown. Bring a layer even if it feels warm when you leave the house.
Where is the best place to watch fireworks in Silicon Valley in 2026?
For families staying local, Great America in Santa Clara is the most complete experience, with a major professional show included with park admission. If you're willing to head to San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge fireworks are a once-in-a-generation event, made even more significant by America's 250th anniversary.
Is the Golden Gate Bridge fireworks show open to the public?
Yes. The fireworks are free to watch from public areas including Crissy Field, Marina Green, and Pier 39. The northern waterfront offers the best sightlines this year due to the bridge launch location.
Does San Jose have its own fireworks show?
There is no single large municipal fireworks event in San Jose proper, but the San Jose Giants host fireworks nights at the ballpark during the season. Check their schedule for holiday weekend dates.
Is Morgan Hill Freedom Fest worth the drive from Silicon Valley?
Absolutely, especially for families. It's one of the most authentic hometown Fourth of July celebrations in Northern California. The drive from South San Jose or Cambrian is typically 20 to 30 minutes, and the crowd is more manageable than the larger venue events.
What time do fireworks start in Silicon Valley on the Fourth of July?
Great America launches around 9:40 PM. San Francisco fireworks begin around 9:30 PM. Morgan Hill and Shoreline are in a similar window. Plan to be in place at least an hour early for a good spot.
Why is the Fourth of July 2026 special?
This year marks the 250th anniversary of American independence, the United States semiquincentennial. San Francisco is commemorating it with fireworks launched from the Golden Gate Bridge, only the third time in the bridge's history. Cities across the country are going bigger this year, and the Bay Area is no exception.
Wherever you end up watching from, we hope it's a good one. This is the kind of community information we love sharing because it's genuinely useful, whether you've lived here for thirty years or just moved in.
If you have questions about the area, what different neighborhoods feel like day to day, or what the market looks like right now, we're always happy to talk.
